Ultech Engineering recently had the privilege of participating in the 3rd Datuk Sebastian's Education and Career Fair 2024, held on the 24th and 25th of May, at the prestigious Pullman Miri Waterfront Hotel. Organized by the Miri Education Initiative Society (MEIS) and SUPP Miri, with the support of education partner MMS (The Education Placement Specialist) and career fair partner PERKESO, the event proved to be a significant platform for both recruiters and educational institutions. The collaboration between these organizations ensured that the event was a resounding success, offering a significant platform for both recruiters and educational institutions to connect with aspiring professionals and students.
This year's fair was a bustling opportunity hub, bringing together 25 companies and 49 universities under one roof at the 3rd Datuk Sebastian's Education and Career Fair 2024. The event aimed to connect job seekers with potential employers and provide students with a broad view of educational options. Companies from various industries, including engineering, food and beverage, healthcare, and technology, set up booths to highlight their organizational values and job openings and engage with potential hires.
Meanwhile, local and international educational institutions used the fair to showcase their academic programs, highlight campus life, and explain career paths to prospective students. Through interactive sessions and personal stories from current students and alumni, attendees gained valuable insights to help them choose the right academic path. Job seekers benefited from face-to-face interactions, often leading to on-the-spot interviews. The fair facilitated a mutually beneficial exchange where recruiters found top talent, universities attracted promising students, and attendees left with valuable knowledge to help them pursue their career and academic goals.
Our company, Ultech Engineering, was represented by the dedicated marketing team tasked with organizing and setting up an engaging booth. Designed meticulously to reflect our company’s values, projects, and career opportunities, the booth aimed to attract and inform potential candidates about the six available positions: Sales Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Automation and Control Engineer, Project Administrator, Electrician or Technician and Marketing Executive. Open to fresh graduates, juniors, and seniors, these positions showcased our commitment to nurturing talent across all experience levels.
To make our booth stand out, we incorporated various elements that would provide a comprehensive understanding of our work and culture. We displayed two eye-catching buntings featuring our company name and training programs and highlighted our partner's product, the Siemens HMI. Additionally, a TV monitor played videos of our past projects and exercises, offering visual and interactive insight into our operations. To leave a lasting impression, we offered free corporate gifts such as measurement tapes, sticky notes, pens, and webcam covers to those who completed the career fair and distributed company profile brochures to job-seeking hopefuls.
The 3rd Datuk Sebastian's Education and Career Fair 2024 began with an inspiring opening ceremony led by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting. In his address, Datuk Ting emphasized the fair's purpose of providing a broader platform for school leavers with varied interests and inclinations.
He noted, "This serves as a one-stop center as not all students are academically inclined, and some may be good in business or technical skills while this fair also caters for matching employers with employees." His speech highlighted the fair's inclusive approach, acknowledging the diverse talents of students and the importance of matching these talents with the right career opportunities. Datuk Ting also expressed gratitude to the state Education Department led by Datu Dr. Azhar Ahmad, Sosco (Social Security Organisation), and corporations for their robust support, which was instrumental in making the event a success.
Following his impactful speech, Datuk Sebastian Ting took the stage to present certificates of appreciation, recognizing key contributors to the fair's success. He honored the education partner, Miri District Education Officer Maream Monek, for their unwavering support and dedication to educational development. This gesture of appreciation underscored the collaborative effort behind the fair and highlighted the importance of community involvement in fostering opportunities for the younger generation. The opening ceremony set a positive and hopeful tone for the event, inspiring participants to explore the wealth of opportunities available to them.
