Booth Overview: Demonstrating the Future of Remote IoT and Net Zero

One of the key highlights at the Ultech Engineering booth was an impressive demo that showcased a conceptualized Remote IoT Net Zero Unmanned Platform. This live demonstration, created with the support of our principal partners, illustrated how modern automation and power management technologies can combine to drive industrial processes more sustainably and securely. This platform was designed to operate entirely off-grid, powered by photovoltaic (PV) solar arrays and supported by advanced industrial automation systems.

We integrated technologies from various principal partners into this conceptualized demo to highlight the key components of the unmanned platform. Below is a breakdown of the systems used:

  • Mitsubishi Electric: Factory automation products were applied to control the remote platform's Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) channels. Mitsubishi’s iQ-R series was pivotal in simulating the HVAC system, ensuring optimal environmental conditions.
  • Siemens: The ET200SP CPU controlled the compressor, simulating the crucial role of air compression in maintaining the platform's operations.
  • DEIF: Their PPM300 was integrated to manage the platform’s genset and power distribution, providing real-time control and simulation of heavy load scenarios.
  • Rockwell Automation: Known for its advanced process control solutions, Allen-Bradley CompactLogix managed the platform's overall process control. We demonstrated a tank-level control system, ensuring precise and safe industrial operations.
  • MOXA: Industrial cybersecurity is essential in today’s connected world. The MOXA EDR-G9010 industrial secure router was implemented to strengthen OT (operational technology) protection, showcasing its capabilities to prevent cyber threats and ensure resilience.
  • Weidmüller: As part of the PV solutions application, Weidmüller's PV String Monitoring System played a central role. Monitoring the electrical performance of individual strings within the solar array ensured that every part of the system contributed to achieving net-zero energy consumption. The system tracked parameters like string voltage and current and identified issues such as blown fuse links or underperforming strings.

The platform was not just a theoretical showcase but brought to life through a hands-on demo where participants could see how these different technologies interacted in real-time. Central to the concept was sustainability and energy efficiency, with the PV solar array, providing clean, renewable power to the system. The Victron Energy GEL12-220 deep-cycle batteries ensured uninterrupted operations, even when solar power was unavailable.

Our platform also featured GENESIS64 as the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) solution, offering a cutting-edge human-machine interface (HMI) that ensured seamless process monitoring and control. Integrated protocols such as OPC, BACnet, and Modbus supported flexible, open-standard database connectivity, making the solution adaptable to a wide range of industrial needs.

Incorporated into this platform's concept is also an ambitious net-zero energy solution. Ultech Engineering showcased an advanced PV application as part of the Remote IoT Net Zero Unmanned Platform. This demonstration highlighted the integration of Weidmüller's PV String Monitoring System, which monitored the performance of solar panels at the string level, detecting issues like blown fuse links, reverse currents, and underperforming strings. The platform was powered by Victron Energy components, including SmartSolar MPPT controllers and deep-cycle GEL batteries, ensuring efficient energy storage and management. This PV solution, aimed at achieving net-zero energy consumption, underscored the platform’s ability to function independently using sustainable solar power.

Engaging with New and Existing Clients

Aside from our remarkable tech demo, OGA 2024 was a fruitful event for building new connections and strengthening relationships with existing clients as well as partners. During the exhibition, we adopted a personalized approach to customer engagement. Rather than relying on generic lead-capturing tools, our team employed a two-step process to establish genuine connections with booth visitors.

  1. One-Question Survey: We replaced last year’s LeadGrab app with a simplified survey. Each visitor answered a single key question that allowed us to understand their familiarity with Ultech Engineering. Based on their responses, we placed each visitor into our customer sales funnel, allowing our team to tailor follow-up communications more effectively.
  2. YouTube Channel Subscription: In an effort to grow our digital presence, we encouraged visitors to subscribe to Ultech Engineering's YouTube channel. This initiative allowed us to provide useful updates and long-form educational content on operational technology (OT) and automation. In exchange for subscribing, visitors received a specially curated gift bag, helping to increase both engagement and brand loyalty.

By leveraging YouTube, we aim to share valuable industry knowledge in an accessible format. Given the increasing consumption of video content in today’s information-driven world, this strategy is aligned with how our target audience prefers to consume technical content.

Strategic Location and Opportunities for Improvement

OGA 2024 also allowed us to reflect on areas for improvement for future exhibitions. One key observation was the importance of booth placement. For the next OGA event, we plan to position ourselves more strategically, close to other exhibitors within complementary sectors, such as industrial automation, explosion-proof services, and renewable energy solutions. A more strategic location would ensure that we attract the right audience—those actively seeking the kinds of solutions Ultech Engineering specializes in.

Moreover, while our customer engagement approach was a success, fine-tuning this strategy further by using more personalized follow-up campaigns and data analytics will enhance our ability to nurture leads long after the event concludes.

Wrap-Up Dinner with Mitsubishi Electric at Sakana Japanese Dining

To conclude a successful OGA 2024 exhibition, Ultech Engineering hosted a celebratory dinner with our principal partner, Mitsubishi Electric, at the elegant Sakana Japanese Dining in Suria KLCC. The evening was a delightful culinary experience, featuring fresh Assorted Sashimi and Sushi, perfectly grilled Japanese Marbling Wagyu BBQ, and rounds of Whisky Highball and Sake to toast our partnership. Guests enjoyed a sweet finish with delectable Japanese desserts, capping off a memorable exhibition with a night of great food, drinks, and camaraderie.
