When the doors opened to OGA 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the air was thick with anticipation — and the hum of the oil and gas industry at its finest. Spanning Halls 1 to 7, this year’s exhibition reaffirmed why OGA remains Southeast Asia’s most important oil and gas trade event: a gathering of innovation, engineering expertise, and the promise of collaboration across the energy value chain.

For Ultech Engineering, OGA 2025 wasn’t just another exhibition. It was a statement of purpose. A decade since our founding in Sarawak, we came to Kuala Lumpur with our new tagline: “Essential Automation” — showcasing systems that don’t just perform, but protect, respond, and last in the most demanding industrial conditions.


Introduction: Essential Automation, Essential Connections

The Oil & Gas Asia (OGA) 2025 exhibition once again brought together the region’s top energy innovators, technology providers, and industry leaders for three days of knowledge-sharing and networking. As one of Malaysia’s largest national events for the oil and gas sector, the exhibition spanned seven halls filled with exhibitors from across the world. While not every exhibitor’s offering directly connects to our business at Ultech Engineering, the sheer scale of OGA serves as a vital platform for exposure, discovery, and opportunity.

A New Home in Hall 2

This year marked a notable shift for Ultech Engineering as we moved to Hall 2, showcasing our theme, “Essential Automation,” highlighted our deep expertise in control systems, instrumentation, and process automation, and joining a cluster of exhibitors focused on the whole scope of oil and gas operations in the region. While OGA spans across seven halls, not every exhibitor aligns directly with our line of work.

The massive event brings together everything from pipeline equipment and drilling solutions to marine services, subsea technology, and safety systems. It’s a national and regional stage — one that offers broad exposure, even if networking requires a discerning eye. This year, we particularly noticed many more China companies participating in OGA 2025 as our booth was also situated opposite the China Pavilion. But with that being said, many other countries continued participating as well, such as the Singapore Pavilion, Germany Pavilion, South Korea Pavilion, India Pavilion Italy Pavillion, and more.

The diversity of exhibitors is both a challenge and an opportunity. Not everyone we meet is in our exact niche — but OGA is where you cast your net into the ocean of opportunities.

Being in KL Convention Centre's Hall 2 on the ground floor, a busier area in terms of human traffic, allowed us to increase our chances of connecting directly with industry professionals who already understand the language of automation and also connected us to key customers with specific niches that fall within a few of our different product offerings and engineering solutions. Engineers, plant managers, and procurement specialists — the kind of people who recognize the importance of control systems that simply cannot fail — became our primary audience throughout the three-day exhibition.

Setting up base in Hall 2, ground floor — was a strategic move that gave us both challenges and advantages. Despite being positioned toward the back of the hall, our team’s creative strategies ensured strong foot traffic and meaningful conversations throughout the event.


Engineering Showcase: Automation That Matters

The highlight of Ultech Engineering’s OGA 2025 presence was our live engineering showcase, built around the concept of Essential Automation and core capabilities of Ultech Engineering. We didn’t just bring brochures and slides — we brought the brains of our operation to share and explain the best of our projects and technologies.

Our booth design this year became a talking point in itself. From afar, it was visually striking; up close, it unfolded into an engaging educational journey.

  • Round Table Stations: A centrepiece “round table” featured live showcase stations where our engineers walked visitors through the inner workings of our projects. Each station represented a different system — from PLC programming to superheaters — allowing participants to experience our expertise in digestible, hands-on segments.
  • 3-Metre Curved Wall Display: Towering at the back of the booth was a 3-metre wall that mapped out Ultech’s core capabilities. This visual storytelling device captured attention instantly, reinforcing areas such as PLC troubleshooting, superheaters, firewater pump systems, and power management solutions.

Together, these visuals made our booth unmissable. Visitors naturally gravitated toward us, curious to learn more about the systems that keep critical operations safe and reliable.

1. Fire Water Pump (FWP) System – Rockwell Automation CompactLogix PAC

One of our proudest highlights was the Fire Water Pump (FWP) system, controlled by Rockwell Automation’s CompactLogix PAC.

In offshore and industrial environments, fire safety cannot be compromised. The FWP system, designed to start instantly during a fire and run continuously until manually stopped or until failure, is the backbone of emergency firefighting.

Nothing captures the essence of critical process control like the Fire Water Pump system.

  • What it does: In the event of a fire, the FWP automatically starts, supplying high-pressure water to the platform’s firefighting network.
  • Run-until-fail logic: Once it runs, it will not stop until manually turned off, meeting National Fire Protection standards for life-and-asset safety.
  • Brains of the system: Rockwell Automation’s Allen-Bradley CompactLogix PAC, offering fast response, modular scalability, and safety interlocks.
  • Integration: With capabilities to link with FactoryTalk View SE and PlantPAx 5.0, the system provided a full-stack automation demo — from sensor to screen.

Our engineers demonstrated how the CompactLogix PAC integrates with the system to detect pressure drops, trigger the pump, and sustain operation through “run-until-fail” logic. The PAC also monitors engine health, ensuring that faults are caught and addressed without compromising firefighting capability.

Visitors saw real-world scenarios simulated, highlighting how automation can be the difference between rapid response and catastrophic loss.

The level of attention this showcase received at OGA proves just how essential reliable automation is in protecting lives and assets.


2. Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG) with DEIF Controllers

Our backup power management system took center stage with DEIF iE350 and AGC150 controllers, demonstrating instant switchover and intelligent load management.

For offshore and industrial operations where power reliability is life support, this exhibit resonated with plant engineers and marine professionals alike. It reinforced Ultech’s longstanding expertise in critical power systems since 2019.


3. Superheater Control with Mitsubishi Electric iQR Series PLC

High-precision thermal management is essential in oil and gas processing. Our Superheater automation used Mitsubishi Electric’s iQR Series PLC, showing:

  • Fast, precise temperature control
  • Continuous monitoring for safety and efficiency
  • Industrial resilience for humidity-sensitive applications

By 2022, this solution expanded Ultech’s footprint into thermal-based industrial automation — and OGA 2025 gave us a stage to show that evolution.


4. Remote Monitoring and SCADA with Genesis64

Today’s operations demand visibility anytime, anywhere. Our SCADA demo using Mitsubishi Electric’s Genesis64 offered:

  • Web-based real-time monitoring
  • Predictive maintenance insights
  • Easy dashboarding for offshore or remote assets

For many visitors, the visual dashboards and connectivity features bridged the gap between traditional control rooms and modern Industry 4.0 expectations.

The SCADA demo featured in OGA combines all of the other engineering showcased above as a whole to simulate a hypothetical offshore platform capable of sustaining multiple industrial automation and power management features that drive the very heart of Ultech Engineering's core capabilities.


5. Beyond Automation — Surprising Interest in Instrumentation: Weidmuller + Cabex

To complete the system story, we showcased how instrumentation quality underpins long-term reliability:

  • Weidmuller terminals and accessories for clean, secure wiring
  • Cabex cable glands from SPT Maju for rugged, environmental resilience

While our big-ticket showcases like the Fire Water Pump and PLC systems dominated conversations, we noticed another surprising trend: strong enquiries around instrumentation items.

  • Cable Glands: Simple yet critical, these drew a steady stream of interest from engineers and buyers alike.
  • Weidmüller Crimping Tool Bundle: Thanks to our targeted digital promotion and strong on-site advocacy, we not only raised awareness but also achieved direct sales success. In fact, we sold two sets of these tools during the exhibition — a testament to how effective product storytelling can convert interest into action.

These unexpected wins showed us the importance of balance: while flagship projects highlight Ultech’s technical depth, practical tools and accessories keep us grounded in everyday industry needs.

Our partnership with SPT Maju allowed us to demonstrate how hardware and automation integrate seamlessly, reinforcing Ultech’s “built from the ground up” ethos.


Drawing the Crowd with Marketing Activation: Marketing Meets Engineering

While our engineering showcase drove conversations, the marketing team elevated our presence with interactive engagement and premium gifts. Being at the back of Hall 2 meant our team had to be extra creative in attracting traffic. Instead of waiting for people to stumble upon us, the marketing team hit the halls with a bold approach: walking around with our very own Ultech signboard, inviting visitors to check out what we had in store.

The result? A small parade of curious faces started following the sign to our booth. Many passerbys and visitors later paid attention to the hand sign and came by simply because they saw the sign and wanted to know what was happening.

This proactive tactic proved to be a game-changer. By combining visual attraction with active outreach, we transformed a back-hall position into an advantage, securing quality engagements throughout the event.

Engagement Through Gifting Premium Gift Bags: Blending Marketing and Social Media

This year’s Ultech gift bags became a mini sensation at the booth. To keep engagement fun and memorable, Ultech’s marketing team prepared premium gift bags for participants. Designed to reflect utility and branding, each full package included:

  • Customized shaker bottle
  • Ruled notebook
  • Keychain
  • Signature pen
  • Branded tote bag

But what made it fun was how visitors earned these gifts. The gifting was tied to a clever social media strategy:

The Gift Station: Follow to Unlock

To engage both engineers and digital audiences, we launched a “Follow to Unlock” mechanism:

  1. Casual visitors:
    • Follow Ultech on YouTube or TikTok
    • Basic Gift Station: Visitors could redeem a gift item after following Ultech on YouTube or TikTok.
  2. Engaged participants:
    • Complete an engineering walkthrough with our team
    • Follow us on one social channel
    • Full Gift Package: For those who went through our full engineering showcase with an Ultech engineer, the complete gift bag was theirs — but only after they also joined us on social media.

This two-tier approach encouraged meaningful engagement while also boosting digital presence. It wasn’t just a gift — it was an invitation to stay connected long after the exhibition ends.


Networking in an Ocean of Opportunities

OGA is massive. With hundreds of exhibitors across seven halls, the event is both exhilarating and challenging.

  • Opportunity: National and international exposure to major oil and gas stakeholders.
  • Challenge: Not all attendees are directly relevant to automation or control system solutions.

Events like this remind us that visibility is about being present in the ocean. We may not reel in a client in every conversation — but every handshake builds our industry footprint.

Despite the diverse exhibitor mix, Hall 2 became a strategic platform for Ultech to connect with technical decision-makers and system integrators in the 3-day event.

Building Connections: Networking with Mitsubishi Electric

Other than a display of technology and networking with new potential leads, OGA also had a lot of partnership relationship building. On Day 2, Ultech colleagues joined a networking dinner with Mitsubishi Electric — an evening that turned into an unforgettable icebreaker.

The venue? A lively Chinese shao kao (barbecue) joint, adventurous in both atmosphere and menu. It wasn’t just satay and chicken wings on the grill — the night saw brave samplings of grasshopper and even balut. For many, it was a first, and laughter over “weird foods” quickly broke down barriers between colleagues new to the Mitsubishi Electric partnership.

In an industry where relationships underpin collaboration, this dinner was the perfect example of how shared experiences create stronger bonds.


Reflections and Takeaways: Engineering Trust, One Event at a Time

OGA 2025 was more than just three days of showcasing systems. It was a convergence of engineering excellence, bold marketing, and human connection.

From demonstrating critical automation systems like the Fire Water Pump to engaging visitors with visual displays, from selling tools on the spot to sharing grilled grasshopper at dinner, Ultech Engineering made the most of every moment.

Our theme of “Essential Automation” resonated because it reflected not only the technology we provide but also the trust we build in critical environments.

OGA 2025 reaffirmed why national industry events matter:
