The first day of the training began early on November 19, 2024, as the team arrived at the Megan Avenue II Building, ready to immerse themselves in the essentials of Adobe Premiere Pro video editing. The day’s agenda focused on key Premiere Pro topics:
The first module laid the groundwork for mastering Adobe Premiere Pro by covering essential concepts and tools for effective video editing. Mr. Zkey began with an overview of the 12 Steps to Better Video Editing, emphasizing the importance of planning, organizing assets, adding transitions, titles, effects, and exporting videos with optimal settings. He then explained the significance of different video resolutions, such as 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 2K, and 4K, clarifying their specific use cases. For example, 1440p is ideal for marketing content, while 4K is primarily used in cinemas and high-end productions, as it is less compatible with most laptops.
The session also covered a beginner’s guide to frame rates, detailing how 24 FPS creates a cinematic feel, 30 FPS suits online videos, and 60 FPS is ideal for fast-motion content like sports. Lastly, participants learned about common video file formats, such as MP4 for online sharing, MOV for professional editing, and AVI for maintaining high-quality outputs. These insights provided a robust foundation for the team to build upon in their video editing journey.
Here’s an updated version with the 3-point and 4-point editing included in Module 2:
In Module 2, we delved into the practical aspects of starting a video project. We learned how to make accurate selections and navigate the Project Panel and Source Monitor to organize and preview clips efficiently. The session emphasized the importance of storyboarding a rough cut to establish a clear narrative flow and demonstrated how to create and allocate timelines and tracks effectively. Mr. Zkey explained the role of Track Headers and introduced keyboard shortcuts to boost editing speed. Additionally, the team explored the use of sub-clips, breaking longer footage into manageable segments for streamlined editing.
The module also introduced us to 3-Point and 4-Point Editing, essential techniques for precise clip placement. Using 3-Point Editing, we set two edit points in the source clip and one on the timeline to fit the clip seamlessly. For more advanced control, 4-Point Editing allowed us to set In and Out points on both the source and timeline, offering options to trim or adjust the clip’s speed when durations didn’t match. These methods significantly enhanced our ability to edit efficiently and with greater accuracy.
Diving deeper into editing, the team learned to make precise cuts, insert and overlay edits, and utilize tools like J and L cuts for seamless storytelling.
The team took breaks between sessions to reflect on their progress and exchange insights on how these techniques could elevate their marketing content. By the end of Day 1, the team had gained a solid understanding of the program’s interface and essential tools, fueling their excitement for the next day’s advanced modules.
On Day 1, the team explored a new and exciting aspect of video editing: creating a professional logo intro using the Ultech Engineering logo. They learned how to apply effects, transitions, and graphics, as well as integrate music, to design a visually appealing and engaging opening sequence. This hands-on activity introduced fresh techniques, enhanced their technical skills, and provided a valuable asset for the company's branding efforts.
Building on the foundational skills learned on Day 1, the second day delved into advanced features and creative possibilities.
This module introduced the team to the fundamentals of applying and customizing video effects, providing a creative toolkit to enhance visual storytelling. Participants explored how effects can elevate video content, adding depth, style, and impact. A key focus of the session was mastering masks, which allow editors to confine effects to specific areas of a video. This technique enabled the team to achieve a new level of precision in their edits, whether by highlighting a subject or blending elements seamlessly.
The team's most exciting discovery was the versatility of mask effects, sparking enthusiasm as they experimented with various creative applications. Learning how to track masks for dynamic visuals that follow motion was particularly eye-opening, as it demonstrated how these techniques could bring animations and effects to life. This part of the training was a favorite among the team, fueling their interest in exploring even more advanced uses of masks in their future projects. The session underscored the importance of effects and masks in modern video editing, equipping the team with essential tools to craft polished and professional content for Ultech Engineering.
During the audio integration session, Mr. Zkey introduced valuable tools and resources to enhance audio quality in video projects. He demonstrated how to record and edit audio directly within Premiere Pro, while using keyframes for precise audio animation and adjustments. Additionally, he introduced TTSMaker, a user-friendly software that converts text to speech, streamlining narration tasks. He recommended Pixabay, a free platform offering an extensive library of royalty-free background music to complement video projects with engaging soundtracks. These tools provided the team with creative and cost-effective solutions for professional audio integration.
In this module, the team delved into the world of green screen effects, learning how to remove backgrounds and seamlessly integrate new visuals. The session focused on key techniques for achieving professional-looking composites, allowing the team to enhance their projects with dynamic backgrounds and elements. Additionally, the team explored various blending effects, learning how to combine different visual layers creatively to achieve smooth transitions and compelling visuals.
A significant portion of this module was dedicated to advanced masking techniques. Participants gained hands-on experience using multiple masks for complex video edits, offering greater control over how effects were applied to specific areas of a scene. These skills equipped the team with powerful tools to create polished, visually striking content for Ultech Engineering’s future video projects.
In this module, the team learned how to export videos in various formats tailored for different platforms, ensuring that content is optimized for maximum reach and engagement. The session introduced Adobe Media Encoder, a powerful tool for streamlining the export process and delivering optimized outputs. Additionally, the team explored cross-platform export options, such as XML and AAF, enabling seamless integration with other software and ensuring versatility across multiple post-production workflows. This knowledge equipped the team to handle diverse project needs and deliver polished, professional content for various platforms.
Zkey encouraged participants to discuss real-world scenarios, sharing insights from his extensive experience in multimedia design and project management. These discussions helped the team understand how to apply their learning to Ultech Engineering’s marketing initiatives.
Before checking out and heading to the airport on November 21, 2024, the team scheduled a gathering at the hotel coworking space for a reflective discussion and recap on the learning points from the two-day Premiere Pro training session.
