Celebrating World Water Day 2024: Ultech Engineering's Contribution to Jabatan Bekalan Air Luar Bandar (JBALB)

World Water Day, observed on March 22nd each year, serves as a reminder of the critical importance of freshwater resources and the need for sustainable water management practices. This global event aims to raise awareness about the significance of water for human health, economic development, and environmental sustainability. In line with this year's theme, "Water for prosperity and peace," Ultech Engineering celebrates World Water Day by highlighting our commitment to water conservation and management through innovative projects and solutions.

Introduction to World Water Day

World Water Day, an annual observance organized by the United Nations (UN) on March 22nd, underscores the significance of freshwater resources. This day serves as a platform to advocate for the sustainable management of water sources, aligning with the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 6, which addresses clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) issues. A specific water-related theme is highlighted each year, reflecting the targets outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 6. The UN World Water Development Report (WWDR) is published annually with World Water Day.

UN-Water, the coordinating body for World Water Day, collaborates with various UN organizations to determine the theme for each year, ensuring alignment with relevant global priorities. For the upcoming World Water Day on March 22nd, 2024, the theme is ‘Water for Peace,’ emphasizing water's pivotal role in fostering global stability and prosperity.

Ultech Engineering's Project with Jabatan Bekalan Air Luar Bandar (JBALB) Miri

As part of our dedication to sustainable water management, Ultech Engineering collaborated with Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department, also known as Jabatan Bekalan Air Luar Bandar (JBALB), a department under the Ministry of Utility & Telecommunication Sarawak. The objective of this partnership was to improve water supply systems, particularly in suburban and rural areas of Sarawak, and address water supply challenges in these regions.

In the project collaboration with Jabatan Bekalan Air Luar Bandar (JBALB) in Miri, Ultech Engineering implemented a sophisticated Booster Pump Telemetry System, leveraging advanced technology to enhance water management in rural areas.

Booster Pump Telemetry System Project Details

The Booster Pump Telemetry System project with JBALB Miri aimed to enhance the monitoring of the Booster Pump Station and High-Level Tank key parameters for 2 remote stations at Booster Pump Station and High-Level Tank located at Marudi, Sarawak. Commissioned and completed in May 2021, this initiative marked a significant step forward in water infrastructure management.

Siemens TeleControl Server Basic for Remote Monitoring and Control of Infrastructure

At the heart of this innovative solution lies the Siemens TeleControl Server Basic, a robust software application designed for remote monitoring and control of critical infrastructure. With the TeleControl Server Basic, Ultech Engineering enables JBALB Miri to efficiently monitor critical parameters of booster pump stations and high-level tanks from their central operations hub. This system empowers water authorities to make informed decisions in real time, ensuring the reliable supply of safe drinking water to communities across rural Sarawak. Through the seamless integration of cutting-edge technology, Ultech Engineering reinforces its commitment to delivering sustainable solutions that address pressing challenges in water resource management.

Booster Pump Telemetry System Implementation

The Booster Pump Telemetry system utilized Siemens S7-1200 PLC, Siemens WinCC Comfort HMI/Professional SCADA, and Siemens Telecontrol Server Basic to enable seamless monitoring and control of crucial water supply parameters

Led by Engineer Wang Zhi Xian, our team deployed cutting-edge solutions to meet the project's objectives. The system utilized Siemens S7-1200 PLC, Siemens WinCC Comfort HMI/Professional SCADA, and Siemens Telecontrol Server Basic to enable seamless monitoring and control of crucial water supply parameters. With the Booster Pump Telemetry System, key performance indicators such as supply flow rate and tank level can be monitored in the central office located in Miri, Sarawak.

Challenges and Solutions to a Rural Area Remote Site Location

One of the primary challenges faced during the project was the remote site location in a rural area. However, our team overcame this obstacle through meticulous planning and the utilization of robust communication systems, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity and data transmission.

JBALB Miri Feedback and Benefits

Throughout the project, our team provided comprehensive training and support to the client, ensuring a smooth transition and successful implementation. Although specific client feedback during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) is unavailable, the project is expected to yield numerous benefits for JBALB Miri, including improved operational efficiency and enhanced water supply management capabilities.

Ultech Engineering's Ongoing Support and Commitment

Even after the project handover, Ultech Engineering remains committed to providing ongoing support and maintenance to Sarawak Rural Water Supply. Coupled with the strengths of having Siemens as our principal partner, our dedication to ensuring the long-term success of the Booster Pump Telemetry System underscores our commitment to sustainable water management and our partnership with JBALB Miri.

Ultech Engineering's Commitment to Sustainable Water Management on World Water Day

Ultech Engineering reaffirms its commitment to supporting JBALB Miri in sustainable water management on World Water Day through projects like the Booster Pump Telemetry System in Marudi and Miri. By leveraging innovative technologies and expertise, we strive to contribute to the realization of JBALB Sarawak's vision of achieving 100% water supply coverage in rural areas by 2030. As we commemorate this important day, let us all pledge to protect and preserve our precious water resources for current and future generations.
